A man threatening to jump from an expressway overpass clogged traffic for hours Sunday afternoon near Doral.

Miami-Dade County police responded with its Hostage Negotiators and Special Response Team, who were able to stop the man from “ending his life,” officials said.

Traffic on State Road 836 (the Dolphin Expressway) west between Northwest 57th Avenue and State Road 826 (the Palmetto Expressway) was blocked as the man sat on a concrete barrier.

Traffic was diverted to the Palmetto Expressway, Florida Highway Patrol Spokesman Joe Sanchez said.

Police say the uninjured man was taken to the hospital.

By about 4 p.m., traffic was once again moving.
