The Doral City Council will not be meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 14 as scheduled, but will instead meet the day before, Tuesday, Jan. 13.
The move was made after Vice Mayor Sandra Ruiz requested the switch because Wednesday night conflicts with the Miss Universe National Gift silent auction, which is being held at the Intercontinental Hotel.
Beauty pageant contestants from more than 80 countries will be at the auction, along with items they have donated to raise money for local charities. The event is “cocktail chic attire,” according to the City of Doral’s website.
All Council members, except Councilwoman Christi Fraga, are expected to attend.

The city has also canceled Thursday’s Cone of Silence workshop, the Miami-Dade County ordinance preventing communication with potential consultants during the request-for-proposals period.
“Due to all the activity the City is engaged in with regards to the Miss Universe, the Mayor would like to explore the possibility of rescheduling the Cone of Silence Workshop to a later date, perhaps early February,” said Alfredo E. Ortega, the mayor’s chief of staff in an email to the Clerk’s office.
Also canceled was the Parks and Police 4 Kids Foundation meeting, “which is usually held the day of Council meetings since the Council sits as the PP4K Board,” according to Connie Diaz, the Interim City Clerk.
“Since the Council meeting got moved to the 13th, the PP4K meeting also moved,” Diaz said.
As the Miss Universe pageant looms closer, many events are set to be held in Doral. Among them are a private welcome event on Friday, Jan. 9 at Downtown Doral Park. On Saturday, Jan. 10, pageant contestants will be giving salsa lessons ($50) at Solare Garden. And on Sunday, Jan. 11, there will be a parade and festival. It is set to take off from City Hall at 1 p.m.
