Doral is getting ready to name its newest place to play.

Residents have until Nov. 6 to submit suggestions for the name of the new park at Northwest 114th Avenue and 82nd Street. Whoever comes up with the neatest name wins.

The park — which for now is called “Northwest 114th Avenue Park” — will cover more than 18 acres. The project planning began in the 2013-14 fiscal year, and the City Council unanimously approved the concept in March. It is expected to be finished in about two years.

The project will cost $15 million to $18 million, according to Vice Mayor Christi Fraga. She said it has been in the works for almost three years.

It will be Doral’s seventh, and largest, park.

“It’s going to provide additional facilities and activities for our residents,” Fraga said. “It’s going to be beautiful.”

The park, Fraga said, will provide much-needed space for basketball leagues, painting-with-mommy classes, Zumba and other activities.

According to its concept design presentation, the park will have the following amenities:

▪ Football and soccer fields with artificial turf.

▪ Youth and adult softball field.

▪ Tennis courts.

▪ Full-size outdoor basketball courts.

▪ An outdoor junior-size basketball court.

▪ Beach volleyball courts.

▪ Children’s playgrounds.

▪ Shaded pavilions.

▪ Splash pad.

▪ Outdoor movie area.

▪ Open green space.

▪ Walking and running paths.

▪ About 320 parking spaces.

The park will also have a recreation center with space for aerobics and dance studios, an indoor playroom, a multipurpose auditorium with a stage, a covered-terrace indoor gymnasium and a game room.

The naming application and rules are available online. You can email the application to doralparksinfo@cityofdoral.com, or hand-deliver or mail it to 8401 NW 53rd Ter., Doral, FL 33166. Applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Nov.6.

For more information, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 305-593-6600.
