Follow the recommendations of first responders: The Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department is telling residents to stay indoors, keep windows and doors closed and to recirculate the air inside the home.

Do not get close to the fire: The Doral Police Department is asking drivers to avoid the area. This will keep you out of harm’s way and allow first responders to come in and out of the facility.

Mask wearing: The masks that you are accustomed to use to protect yourself from COVID-19 may not be enough to filter chemical gases and other potentially harmful particles from the air. Avoiding smoky situations is the best way to avoid exposure.

Driving: If you have to get into a vehicle, close the windows and turn on the AC. But be careful; authorities say the smoke may impact visibility on the road.

Pay attention to your body: Smoke is irritating to the eyes, nose and throat, and its odor may be nauseating. If you have a headache, reduced alertness and/or feel you can’t breathe, call 911.

Seek help: Anyone with persisting or frequent symptoms that they think are associated with smoke exposure should see their healthcare provider.
