Over $53,000 raised for family of boy, 14, who died after a car hit his bicycle in Doral
An online fundraising page for the family of 14-year-old Daniel Fajardo, who died in a bicycle accident in Doral on Thursday, has recorded more than $53,300 in donations.
Fajardo, a student at Doral Academy Charter Middle-High School, played soccer for the Doral Soccer Club’s Under-15 Elite Team and was a member of Doral Academy’s track and field team, according to a GoFundMe page created to assist the Fajardo family with memorial and funeral expenses.
Fajardo was struck by a car around 7:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Northwest 107th Avenue and 74th Street, police told NBC 6. Miami-Dade Police are conducting a death investigation. A spokesman for Doral Police said the incident was not a hit-and-run crash and that the driver cooperated with police.
“We extended our condolences to the family and friends of the young man who lost his life last night,” Doral Police said Friday on Twitter.
As of Saturday evening, more than 1,400 individual donors contributed to the fundraiser for Fajardo’s family.
“During this painful period for the family, your contributions will help them tremendously and allow them to focus on healing,” wrote Carolina Gonzalez, who organized the fundraiser, on the GoFundMe page.
Doral Mayor Juan Carlos “JC” Bermudez shared the fundraiser on Facebook and shared his condolences with the Fajardo family via social media.
“As Mayor of Doral, my heartfelt sympathy and compassion goes out to the family of Daniel Fajardo, the teenager who was struck Thursday on his bicycle and later died,” Bermudez wrote. “To donate in memory of this young man, a member of the Doral Soccer Club, please visit: https://bit.ly/3517xG2.”
