Doral Councilwoman Claudia Mariaca has tested negative for COVID-19, the city announced on Friday, following a two-week self-isolation after she had contact with officials from Brazil who visited South Florida in early March.

Mariaca briefly had contact with Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, who said he tested negative on March 17. Members of Bolsonaro’s staff, some of whom joined the president on his trip to South Florida, have tested positive. Less than a week after being in the vicinity of Bolsonaro and his delegation, Miami Mayor Francis Suarez tested positive for the virus. Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez, who also attended the event, tested negative and self-isolated for 14 days.

Mariaca, who only briefly had contact with Bolsonaro, had no contact with the public during the last 14 days, according to a city news release. The Florida Department of Health decided to test Mariaca a few days ago as a precaution.

“Throughout this time, neither her nor any of her family members experienced any symptoms of the virus,” the release reads.
