3 people in their early 20s died Sunday morning in a Palmetto Expressway crash

Three Weston residents in their 20s died in an overnight crash in the shadow of the Northwest 58th Street exit of the Palmetto Expressway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Daniela Hernandez, 21; Diego Ortiz, 21; and Shelley Rapp, 20, just nine days from turning 21, died Sunday around 3:30 a.m.

The northbound side of State Road 826 remained closed at Northwest 36th Street until Sunday around 11:10 a.m.

FHP didn’t name who was driving the Volkswagen.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Ortiz. The Weston Raw Juce franchise, where Rapp and Hernandez worked, set up a GoFundMe page for their funeral costs.

Sunday, the Volkswagen with five passengers left the highway on the right side and crashed into trees. Two people were ejected, FHP said. They died on the scene, as did one of the people who remained in the car.

The two other people were transported to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital “with serious injuries.”
