Did you hear a boom in Doral? An acetylene tank exploded — and traffic is a mess

An explosion near Trump National Doral has traffic in gridlock Tuesday afternoon.

Doral police say an acetylene tank exploded after the truck that was carrying it crashed into a car by Northwest 87th Avenue and 36th Street just as rush hour started.

Police say the explosion has nothing to do with the nearby hotel and golf resort owned by the president.

The explosion blew out part of the rear bed of the truck, sending debris across the road, according to Doral police.

Police have shut down eastbound traffic on 36th Street between 84th to 87 avenues.

The truck was carrying acetylene —also known as ethyne —a colorless, combustible gas with a distinctive odor that is widely used as fuel in welding and cutting.

There are no injuries but traffic is a nightmare, said a police spokesman. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
