Vizcaya seeks eight locals to showcase Lost Spaces and Stories contemporary arts program

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is looking for eight local artists to create artwork for its Lost Spaces and Stories of Vizcaya Contemporary Arts Program.

The museum will hold free information sessions at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25; 6 p.m. Monday, March 2; and 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 25.

Artists interested in applying must attend one of the information sessions. RSVP is required.

“Over the past 100 years, nature and time have transformed Vizcaya, and many of its most compelling spaces and stories have been lost. By commissioning local artists to create site-specific artwork, Vizcaya will bring these spaces and stories back to life,” spokeswoman Suzy Trutie said. “Among the lost spaces included are the Summer House on the Barge, Recreational Rooms (currently the site of the Vizcaya Café and Shop), Moat, Casino Rooms and Fountain Garden Swing.”

The deadline to submit entries is 5 p.m. April 30. The project will be selected by a committee organized by Vizcaya.

The installations of the selected artwork will begin in April 2016 and be on view for 12 months.
