Man critically injured in Coral Gables violent rear-end crash identified

Coral Gables police on Monday released the names of those involved in a violent crash that critically injured a man Sunday morning.

According to police, Serge Myrtil, 53, of Miami was hurt when the driver of a Ford Fusion, identified as 19-year-old Rolando Garcia, rear-ended Myrtil’s Isuzu Rodeo at the intersection of South Dixie Highway and Riviera Drive.

Police say Myrtil, who was heading west on South Dixie Highway, was stopped at red light when Garcia, who was also heading west in his Ford Fusion, slammed into the back of the SUV.

Myrtil was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he remains. Police said his injuries were critical.

Coral Gables spokeswoman Kelly Denham said the cause of the crash is still under investigation.

"Charges may be pending with the outcome of the investigation,''' she said.
