9-year-old boy is struck by car in Coral Gables

Coral Gables police are looking for a man driving a white Honda Civic who hit a 9-year-old boy and didn’t stop in the 1100 block of South Greenway Drive around 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police said the boy was riding his bike with his father when he stopped to look at a sign and got off his bike. The father witnessed the Honda striking his son with the right front of the vehicle. The driver fled west on South Greenway.

Police are investigating it as a hit and run, and said the Honda Civic had a dark-colored hood, possibly black, and was possibly driven by a white male with a beard.

South and North Greenway encircle the Granada Golf Course and are a popular destination for cyclists, joggers and walkers.

Police ask anyone with information to call 305-442-4600. They did not identify the child; they said he was transported to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and was in stable condition with broken bones.
