Coral Gables man claims $28 million Lotto jackpot
John Liappas of Coral Gables claimed the $28 million Florida Lotto jackpot from a drawing held July 22, lottery officials announced Tuesday.
“I don’t plan to retire right away out of courtesy and gratitude to my employer who has been great to me all these years,” Liappas, 63, told the Miami Herald Tuesday night. “My only regret is that my parents aren’t here to enjoy this with me.”
The winning Florida Lotto numbers: 10-26-29-38-42-46.
Liappas told lottery officials that he has played the same numbers for 15 years. He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $19,151,244.65.
Publix Super Market at 1401 Monza Ave. in Coral Gables will receive a commission of $135,000 for selling Liappas the winning ticket.
Liappas said he will continue working, but plans to retire over the next year.
