‘He is in good spirits’: Coral Gables motorcycle cop recovering after crash with SUV
A Coral Gables motorcycle officer was recovering in the hospital Wednesday after colliding with an SUV the day before, police said.
He was alert and conscious, and he may be able to go home in the next couple of days, police spokesman Sgt. Alex Escobar said.
“He is in good spirits,” Escobar said. “We are happy he made it through.”
Around 3:40 p.m. Tuesday, the officer was driving on Alhambra Circle when he crashed with a white SUV at Cantoria Avenue. The impact sent him off his bike,, Escobar said..
The officer was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center.
On Tuesday night, Coral Gables Chief of Police Ed Hudak said the officer’s injuries were non-life-threatening. He added the officer was conducting an escort when the crash occurred.
“On behalf of all of the members of the Coral Gables Police Department and the officer’s family, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the outpouring of prayers and support from our entire community and our law enforcement families,” he said.
The person in the SUV wasn’t injured. The identities of the officer and driver haven’t been released.
