Gun belonging to off-duty police officer goes off in Coral Gables restaurant, cops say
A gun belonging to an off-duty Miami-Dade police officer somehow went off at a popular Coral Gables restaurant Tuesday evening, striking another diner, who was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, police said.
Miami-Dade police said the officer whose gun fired is a three-year veteran. Coral Gables police, who are also looking into the incident, said the officer was having dinner when the gun fired unexpectedly and that one person was struck before the bullet ricocheted into another seat. The person in the seat was not injured.
Coral Gables police said the three people involved in the incident were at the same table.
“One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries,” Denham said.
The incident happened inside Sushi Maki, 2334 Ponce de Leon Blvd., at 8:45 p.m. The restaurant remained cordoned off by yellow police tape Wednesday morning.
