Two people were in custody and at least one more person was on the run after Coral Gables police say they committed two home invasions at knifepoint Monday afternoon.

By 6 p.m., several streets around Venetia Avenue and Capri Street were closed as detectives combed the area for the third suspect.

Coral Gables Sgt. Tomas Salcedo said the incident began when a trio in a stolen car forced a homeowner — who had called police — into his home with a machete.

When police arrived, the trio took off and at least one of them ended up forcing another homeowner into their home at knifepoint.

No further details were immediately available.

Miami Herald staff writer Monique O. Madan contributed to this report.
