Texting while driving proves fatal for Miami man
Miami’s Maynor Portobanco sent his last text message after midnight Thursday. Miami Police traffic homicide investigators believe Portobanco did so while behind the wheel of his blue 2004 Ford Explorer.
Miami Police say Portobanco, 25, was driving south on U.S. 1 near Southwest 37th Avenue around 12:25 a.m., when he lost control of the Explorer. The SUV drifted into two palm trees, hit the center median and flipped atop a car traveling on the northbound side of the median. That driver received minor injuries.
Southwest 37th Avenue was closed down until just before dawn.
