Traffic alert: Miami streets closing for holiday weekend event. Expect backups, detours

Driving in Miami will be more difficult than usual this holiday weekend, with street closings and detours for several major events.

One of those events is the Coconut Grove Arts Festival.

Here’s what you should know if you’re trying to get around town near the event:

Coconut Grove Arts Festival

Event details: The Coconut Grove Arts Festival puts 285 artists on and around 2700 S. Bayshore Drive and runs along McFarlane Road, South Bayshore Drive and Pan American Drive Saturday through Monday. Those streets are closed to traffic.

Street closings: Miami police will close streets for the festival starting at around 12:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 17, through 11:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20.

Pedestrian-only: No cars will be allowed on South Bayshore Drive from Aviation Avenue to McFarlane Road and from McFarlane to Grand Avenue.

Traffic: Expect heavy traffic along Southwest 27th Avenue from U.S. 1 to Tigertail Avenue.

Alternative routes: If you want to drive to the festival you can use 22nd or 32nd Avenues as alternates from South Dixie Highway, Miami police said.

Parking: Miami Parking has designated garages as parking options at Continental Plaza at 3250 Mary Street and Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove at 3300 SW 27th Ave. There is also some on-street metered parking and private parking lots. Ride-share Uber and Lyft is also an option.

Mass transit: Miami-Dade Transit routes offer shuttles from two Metrorail stations: Douglas Road Station and Coconut Grove Station.
