Man found dead, likely shot, on walking path under Coconut Grove Metrorail station

Police responding to a 911 call Sunday night about an unresponsive person found a homeless man dead on a walking path under the Metrorail station near Southwest 27th Avenue in Coconut Grove.

Miami police said they believe the man was shot dead, but are leaving the official cause of death to the Miami-Dade County medical examiner.

Police spokesman Michael Vega said officers found the man’s personal belongings near his body in the 3000 block of 28th Lane, but still don’t know if anything was stolen from him. Vega said there is surveillance video that investigators are looking at to help determine what happened.

Police received the call just after 9 p.m.

“There’s not much to go on right now,” Vega said. “But just days before Christmas, regardless if he’s homeless, a man lost his life.”

Anyone with information is urged to call Miami police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
