A man died in the hospital Thursday morning after jumping into Biscayne Bay off Brickell Avenue, according to police.

The 26-year-old man, who police have not named, was in critical condition when Miami Fire Rescue paramedics took him to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died, Miami police spokeswoman Kiara Delva said.

Police were called to the 1100 block of Brickell Bay Drive at 4:55 a.m. about reports that a man jumped into the water. The officers saw that another man had jumped in the bay to try to save him, Delva said. Paramedics examined the rescuer, who was not injured.

“The 26-year-old male has since passed away at the hospital, and the circumstances surrounding this incident remains under investigation,” Delva said in a statement.
