A Miami police officer shot and killed a dog Sunday afternoon after a “possible dog attack” in Brickell, according to the Miami Police Department.

The incident happened at around 2:35 p.m. when Miami police responded to the area of Southeast 9th Street and Brickell Bay Drive “regarding a call of a possible complaint of a dog attack,” according to Miami police spokeswoman Kiara Delva.

“Upon police arrival, an officer was forced to discharge their firearm striking the dog,” Delva told the Miami Herald. “The dog has since been pronounced deceased. All information is very preliminary as this is an open and ongoing investigation. Unfortunately due to the fact this is still an open and ongoing investigation, we are not at liberty to disclose any further information as it pertains to the investigation.”
