Aventura police dog dies during surgery
When Quantum joined Aventura Police Department in 2008 he quickly became a star, helping to apprehend suspects and attending community events.
The German Shepard became a part of the police family — especially for his human partner, Officer Helen Morrison.
“He especially loved children,” said Aventura Police Spokesman Chris Goranitis.
Quantum died Thursday from complications after routine surgery.
The department is planning a memorial for Quantum for later this week.
Goranitis said the loss was especially hard on Morrison, who has been an officer for 35 years. Quantum was her fifth K-9 partner.
“It's hard to understand the special bond a K-9 officer has with their dog,” Goranitis said. “They work, train and live together.”
