Aventura power outage strikes mall, snarls Biscayne Boulevard traffic
A major power outage affecting Aventura Mall and the surrounding neighborhood snarled Friday afternoon traffic on nearby Biscayne Boulevard.
About 3,700 Florida Power & Light customers in and around Aventura Mall lost power about 3:50 p.m. Friday, according to FPL spokesman Bill Orlove.
Traffic signals were out at Biscayne Boulevard intersections between Northeast 178th and 213th streets, according to Aventura police.
By 6 p.m., power had been restored to all intersections, but traffic remained heavy. Police asked Friday night motorists to use State Road A1A or West Dixie Highway.
Friday evening, power had been restored to nearby residents, but many mall tenants remained without power. Orlove said there was no estimate for when the outage would be completely fixed and a cause has not been identified.
“That is still under investigation,” he said.
Aventura Mall’s Twitter account is reporting that a majority of stores have restored power.
