A tractor-trailer that failed to stop in congested traffic on I-95 late Thursday night caused a chain-reaction crash involving 18 cars near Aventura, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash happened around 11:25 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway near Ives Dairy Road. Troopers said the tractor-trailer collided with several cars, sparking a series of crashes.

Some occupants were transported to Aventura Hospital with minor injuries, according to FHP. The crash also caused a fuel leak, forcing authorities to shut down the roadway and divert traffic onto Ives Dairy Road. All lanes reopened around 6 a.m. Friday.
