A man has died after police opened fire on him Thursday afternoon in an Aventura strip shopping center.

Around 2:40 p.m., Aventura police announced one of its officers was involved in a shooting in the 19000 block of Biscayne Boulevard, authorities said. The shooting took place outside of RH Beauty Salon in the busy Town Center shopping plaza.

Friday morning, it was business as usual at the salon, with clients coming and going and getting their hair done.

There was no police presence or yellow police tape in sight at the center, and customers were enjoying breakfast next door at Bagel Cove Restaurant & Deli.

A woman who said she was part of management asked the media to leave. The Salon’s management later released a statement to the Miami Herald.

“We are relieved to report that all of our team members and clients are safe, and their well-being remains our top priority,” the statement read. “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate the matter.”

Details remain scant, but the shooting involved at least one Aventura officer. The man who was killed, 36-year-old Troy Cannata is reportedly the husband of a former salon employee. He had a confrontation with police after going after the salon owner with a knife, according to Miami Herald news partner CBS News Miami.

Cannata, who was initially listed in critical condition, died from his injuries, according to police. The officer was not injured but was evaluated by medical personnel as a precaution, police said. He is no on administrative leave until further notice.

“He [Cannata] showed up, said some antisemitic remarks. I believe that’s when the police were called initially,” a nearby worker told CBS Miami. “Then somebody told me that they took him to the Brightline, and then he came back and went after the owner with a knife.”

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting, as is the protocol in police-involved shootings.

“We extend our condolences to Mr. Cannata’s family during this difficult time,” the Aventura Police Department said in a statement.
