Sunny Isles Beach, Florida, police said traffic would be diverted off Collins to Sunny Isles Beach Boulevard and vice versa while they dealt with the problem. Streets reopened late Monday night.

Sunny Isles Beach streets reopened Monday night after temporary repairs were made to a water main that had broken earlier in the day, police announced.

Just after noon, a water main break had caused traffic diversions around Northeast 163rd Street and Collins Avenue.

Southbound Collins Avenue traffic was sent east on Sunny Isles Boulevard. Eastbound traffic on Sunny Isles Boulevard, also known as Northeast 163rd Street, was sent south on Collins Avenue.

Sunny Isles Beach police then said crews were repairing the break at 5 p.m. and that the work “is expected to continue through the early morning hours” of Tuesday.

The department wrote via Twitter that the streets would reopen at around 10:30 p.m.

Miami Herald staff writer Carli Teproff contributed to this report.
