Police following lead in fatal shooting outside the Aventura LA Fitness
Aventura police are looking for a white Mercedes hatchback in connection with a shooting Friday night that left one man dead in the parking lot of a popular LA Fitness.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at the health club at 3455 NE 207th St. at 11:35 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found a man who had been shot outside the gym.
On Saturday, Aventura police identified the victim as Omar Darwish, 18.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced Darwish dead at the scene. Aventura police are not releasing any more details as the investigation continues.
The club was open as usual Saturday. Zumba and kickboxing classes and the weight room bustled with activity. The only sign that something had happened hours earlier was the discarded yellow police tape in the parking area.
