Four migrants arrive on Virginia Key Tuesday, border patrol investigating
U.S. Border Patrol agents are investigating the arrival of four migrants on Virginia Key Tuesday morning.
Officials received reports from Miami police at about 10:20 a.m. that four migrants, one women and three men, arrived at 3709 Rickenbacker Causeway in a “rustic vessel,” said Todd Bryant, the division chief of the Miami Sector of the U.S. Border Patrol. It is unknown if any of them are injured.
Local 10 reported that the group came from central Cuba and some have friends and family in the South Florida area.
Bryant said the last migrant arrival in the area was on Fisher Island July 22 when 20 Haitian migrants were smuggled onto Fisher Island on a “go-fast vessel.” The migrants and the smuggler were all arrested.
