A former basketball coach faces new molestation charges
A former Miami-Dade schools basketball coach was charged again with lewd and lascivious behavior as a 2-year-old case moves toward trial.
The arrest of Javier Cuenca, who is accused of lewd and lascivious molestation on a child 12 to 16 years old, caused his felony bond in each of the 2014 cases to be revoked. His freedom now stretches only to the Metro West Detention Center.
An NBC6 report says the new fondling accusation comes from a former student and basketball player at Miami Gardens Middle School, where Cuenca taught and coached before being a Hialeah Gardens High assistant basketball coach. The 2014 cases came from his time as at Hialeah Gardens High in 2012 to 2014.
According the arrest reports from the 2014 cases, one former player accused Cuenca of fondling under the premise of seeing if he was eligible to take steroids. The other player accused Cuenca of trying to fondle him after persuading ths student to pull his pants down to check his “virgin line.”
