July is Park and Recreation Month and the Miami-Dade Parks and Recreation department is celebrating its programs and facilities through various events and campaigns.
The first event of the month was held July 6 at the Stephen P. Clark Center, 111 NW First St., where the lobby became a pop-up park, complete with picnic benches and greenery.
“The idea is to create a public park in the lobby of the Stephen P. Clark center so that people will have an opportunity to come out of their offices and enjoy a pop-up park right at the foot of the building,” said Jack Kardys, director of the Parks and Recreation department.
Guests can enjoy a pastelito and cafecito at the new park, which is on display through July.

Miami-Dade Parks is also hosting a social media campaign through July 31. Guests can share selfies taken at parks using the hashtags #liveaparklife, #SuperParkSelfie or #SuperJuly on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram.
“Parks have the power to really transform our community through the concepts of health, prosperity and happiness,” Kardys said. “These parks don’t require a membership fee, we have 24 fitness zones scattered around the community, we have miles and miles of walking and biking paths and there are hundreds of all fields.”
