Work to begin on Northwest 57th Avenue south of Gratigny Parkway

A new road project plus ongoing roadwork will slow commuters on expressways and surface roads in Miami-Dade County.

Starting this week, a traffic shift will take place along Northwest 57th Avenue/West 4 Avenue/Red Road from north of West 68th Street to south of the Gratigny Parkway.

A work zone will be established along the east side of the roadway while the contractor performs water main installation, drainage work and reconstruction activities from south to north. To do this, workers will shift northbound traffic onto the newly constructed roadway as they transfer the work zone to the east side of the road. During the shift, traffic will continue to be maintained on two southbound lanes and one northbound lane. Access to businesses will be maintained at all times.

Meanwhile, up to two lanes on the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike in either direction between Southwest 216th Street and Eureka Drive may be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., through Thursday for widening and express lane construction.

Also, one lane in either direction between Southwest 184th Street/Eureka Drive and Southwest 104th Street/Killian Parkway may be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., through Thursday for the same purpose. If necessary, two lanes in each direction may be closed nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. One or more lanes will remain open at all times.

Also on the Turnpike, one lane in either the northbound or southbound direction will be closed from Killian Parkway to Kendall Drive beginning at 9:30 p.m. and expanding to a two lane closure at 10:30 p.m. through Thursday for the installation of a temporary concrete barrier. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the next day. Similarly, up to two lanes northbound and southbound at various locations between Sunset Drive/Southwest 72nd Street and Bird Road/SW 40th Street may be closed nightly through Thursday. The first lane closes at 9:30 p.m., and the second at 10:30 p.m. Both lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. the next day.

On State Road 836, the entrance ramps to the eastbound expressway from northbound and southbound Northwest 27th Avenue will be intermittently closed for paving through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night and again on Friday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday.

Also, the entrance ramp to eastbound 836 from northbound and southbound Northwest 42nd Avenue/LeJeune Road will be intermittently closed for paving through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night and again on Friday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday.

Similarly, the eastbound 836 exit ramp to Northwest 45th Avenue will be intermittently closed for earthwork and pile driving through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night and again on Friday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday. The Northwest 87th Avenue entrance ramp to eastbound 836 and northbound 826/Palmetto Expressway will be closed for restriping and barrier wall installation through Thursday from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night and again on Friday and Saturday from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.
