Woman shot in head in same complex where 6-year-old King Carter died

A 23-year-old woman was shot in the head Monday night and a 27-year-old man was shot in the upper arm in the same Northwest Miami-Dade apartment complex where 6-year-old King Carter was killed in February, police said.

Shortly after the shootings, the shooters ran off.

Miami-Dade police said the shooting took place at the Blue Lake Village — better known as Colors—apartment complex at Northwest 103rd Lane and Northwest 12th Avenue.

Santonio Carter, King’s father, said Monday night he heard the shots at about 7:15 p.m. and came downstairs to see what was going on.

“I don’t know what happened, I don’t know who was involved, but it could have been another kid dead today for no reason,” Carter said. “In broad daylight you hear 20 or 30 shots going off when kids are outside playing.”

The man and woman were identified by Miami-Dade police as Jessica Jean and Calvin Wright.

No children were injured but Carter said it sent chills through his body knowing that it could have happened again.

King’s death, as he went out to buy candy on a Saturday afternoon, sparked community reaction countywide and new calls to combat gun violence in South Florida.
