Heavy thunderstorms forced the Tortuga Music Festival in Fort Lauderdale to evacuate Friday evening.
Organizers from the festival tweeted Friday evening: “We want to get you back in as soon as it is safe, y’all.’’
The National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning from Miami-Dade County until 8:45 p.m. Friday as heavy showers rolled into the area. The storms led to hard rain, hail of 1-inch or greater and sustained winds of 58 miles or higher, said meteorologist Barry Baxter.
Most of the bad weather was concentrated in Aventura, the Florida International University area in southwest Miami and downtown out to Biscayne Bay.
