Driver who plowed through I-95 express-lane poles killed cyclist, cops say
After a deadly crash shut down parts of Interstate 95 for hours, police said a 75-year-old driver who cut through the express lanes’ plastic poles is to blame.
Florida Highway Patrol said the driver illegally entered the northbound express lanes, between the 95th and 103rd Street exits, and cut off a motorcyclist, who crashed into her car.
The impact was so severe that Aledys Llorens, 28, of Hialeah, was thrown over the highway’s dividing wall and landed in the southbound lanes, where he died at the scene.
The driver suffered minor injuries. Her three passengers were not hurt.
No charges have been filed and the investigation continues.
