A wee-hours burglar broke into La Progresiva Presbyterian School and stole a safe containing more than $5,000 intended for class trips, including to Disney World and a bible camp.
Usually, the safe contains only paperwork, but school director Ailyn Hernandez said, “He got lucky.”
Not so lucky with security cameras, which caught the goateed burglar rummaging around the school office, walking around the cafeteria and leaving with the safe on a luggage dolly he found in the cafeteria. He smashed the office camera after it had been recording his doings for several minutes. He was in the school, 2480 NW Seventh St. in Miami, from around 12:30 to 2:45 a.m. Monday. City of Miami Police said
Lucky with the cash, definitely. Students had turned in money last week for a trip to the Magic Kingdom at Disney World, Grad Bash at Disney World, a bible camp that’s coming up this weekend, and other class field trips.

“We’re hoping we’re going to catch him, first,” Hernandez said. “But the school will have to figure out how to pay for the trips and make sure they get their activities paid for so that it doesn’t affect them. We’re not going to have them pay it again.”
Hernandez said it’s the first break-in the school has suffered in its 46 years. She canceled school Monday out of safety concerns.
