When a shrimp boat named the Minnie Pearl began taking on water, the two men on board used buckets to try to control the leak.
But the welling water was too much for the two men to handle, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
Just before midnight Saturday, a fireboat and helicopter responded to the boat in distress, which was near Chicken Key, east of Southwest 152nd Street. Using special equipment, rescuers removed the water from the boat.
The Coast Guard also was on hand to help. No one was injured.
