Miami-Dade police detective arrested on suspicion of grand theft
The Miami-Dade Police Department announced Friday they arrested one of their own on grand theft charges.
It all stems from a narcotics investigation Det. Armando Socarras responded to on Thursday, Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported.
According to Professional Compliance Bureau (PCB) investigators, narcotics detectives executed a search warrant at 1020 North Homestead Blvd., where they seized drugs and $17,427 in cash.
Police said after completion of the investigation, Socarras responded to the MDPD Property and Evidence Bureau and impounded the narcotics but only $16,127.
PCB investigators stopped Socarras as he left the area.
Authorities said Socarras admitted to keeping $1,300 for personal reasons.
Socarras was arrested and charged with grand theft. He is currently relieved of duty with pay.
Socarras is a 10-year veteran with the Miami-Dade Police Department.
