Man arrested and charged with Northwest Miami-Dade hit-and-run crash

Miami-Dade police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a man wanted for driving his car into a teen in Northwest Miami-Dade street and then taking off.

Simion Boykins, 33, was charged with driving with a suspended license while being a habitual traffic offender, causing serious bodily injury while driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of an accident with serious injuries.

On Monday, police released surveillance video of Javier Valdes, 15, being hit by a silver Mercedes C Class as he crossed the 7900 block of Northwest 22nd Avenue at about 6:30 a.m. that day.

Javier was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious but stable condition.

Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported Boykins is Miami Commissioner Keon Hardemon's cousin. Hardemon went to the hospital to comfort Javier's family.

“The comfort will come when my nephew feels better” Javier’s aunt, Elia Carranza, told the station. “There’s relief that he’s there, but my nephew is really all that matters.”
