Traffic Watch: Maintenance work to affect several expressways
Disruptions this week will impact commuters along major expressways and an elevated train downtown.
The exit ramp from State Road 112, the Airport Expressway, to Northwest 36th Street will be closed for installation of beams, re-bar, and other work through Sunday from 9 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. each night.
Work on new express lanes also will bring closures to the Palmetto Expressway when the contractor begins installing sheet piles, placing temporary barrier walls and demolishing an existing retaining wall. As a result, nighttime ramp closures, detours and daytime and nighttime lane closures will be in effect. One of the closures involves the northbound lane on the frontage road at Northwest 77th Court from 52nd to 56th Streets through Jan. 21 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
On State Road 836, the Dolphin Expressway, several ramp and lane closures will take place through Thursday for installation of electronic tolling equipment. The work, which will take place nightly between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., will affect — among others — the southbound and northbound entrance ramps at Northwest 12th Avenue; the eastbound exit ramps to Northwest 27th Avenue; the entrance ramps to westbound 836 from Northwest 27th Avenue; the entrance ramp to eastbound 836 from northbound 57th Avenue and the entrance ramp to westbound 836 from Northwest 107th Avenue.
Meanwhile, work continues on the widening of Florida’s Turnpike from Eureka Drive to State Road 874, the Don Shula Expressway in south Miami-Dade, and from 874 south to Killian Parkway. The work is anticipated to continue through early 2017.
As for the Metromover, the elevated automatic train will shut down Saturday and Sunday for maintenance work. Free bus-shuttle service will be provided between Metromover stations, with buses arriving approximately every 10 to 15 minutes.
