Family raising funeral funds for man shot over parking spot
Jackson Solis was just trying to go to a bar with friends, when an argument, apparently over a parking spot, led to his death.
Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, 33-year-old Solis, his brother and a friend parked on Northwest Seventh Street, near 17th place and Marlins Park.
The friend, identified only as Martin, told Miami Herald news partner CBS4 that the group was going to the El Secreto nightclub, and as he and Solis’ brother walked away he heard a man arguing with Solis.
“It was a quarrel over a parking spot,” he told CBS4.
“As I’m coming in, I see them arguing. It was a dark pickup truck. I wanna say dark red. And he got shot,” he said.
Miami Fire Rescue arrived and took Solis, who had been shot in the chest, to Ryder Trauma Center, where he died.
That night, family and friends held a vigil where their loved one was shot.
Relatives said t hat Solis worked for Miami-Dade County and was the father of a 10-year-old boy.
Aramis Solis created a gofundme to crowdsource the expenses of Solis’ funeral. As of Sunday afternoon, $1,400 of the $3,000 goal has been collected.
The description of the fund reads: “Raising money for our family's tragedy & mourning the lost of a great father, husband & loved one. Anything helps may god bless everyone and their donations. Sleep in paradise Jackson you'll be truly missed by many.”
Miami police are looking for a dark, older model pickup truck, possibly a Ford F-150. Anyone with information can call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
