Police: Teen charged in connection with murder of man sitting on his porch

A 17-year-old was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder and discharging a firearm after detectives say he killed a 45-year-old man outside a Northwest Miami-Dade home last week.

Miami-Dade police, with the help of the Boynton Beach Police Department and Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, arrested Jordan Baez Saturday.

According to police, Victor Jones, 45, was sitting on his porch at 6021 NW 30th Ave., speaking with Dakwan Perry, 21, when Baez opened fire. A bullet grazed the other man as he took shelter in the house.

Perry later told police he “heard rumors” that Baez thought he had stolen a firearm from him.

Jones was hit several times and taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where he died.

A warrant was issued for Baez’ arrest after police searched his home, which is only several blocks from where Jones was shot.
