High winds knock out power for thousands in Miami-Dade, Broward
A windy day has left thousands of South Floridians without power.
As of 2:30 p.m., about 3,000 customers in Miami-Dade county and 2,000 in Broward are powerless, according to Florida Power and Light’s power tracker map.
FPL spokesman Chris McGrath said lines are down due to 45 to 50 mph winds, but FPL employees are working to restore power “with safety as priority.”
He gave no estimate for when the power would be fixed in every neighborhood in either county.
“It’s such a fluid situation,” he said.
The National Weather Service predicts winds will die down around 9 p.m. Temperatures are expected to drop to the low 50s Saturday night and climb back to the 60s on Sunday.
