A woman died Tuesday evening after falling at least 30 feet from a Miami bridge, according to Miami police.
It was not clear Tuesday why Olga Aponte, 61, was on the bridge after the warning arms went down. It was also not clear what direction she was headed or if she was trying to beat the rising bridge.
Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said the department got a call at about 4 p.m. about a woman clinging to the 12th Avenue Bridge near the Miami River.
When crews arrived they found the woman on the southwest side on the ground. Carroll said the fall was between 30 and 40 feet.
