Coast Guard repatriates 75 migrants to Cuba

The Coast Guard on Monday returned 75 migrants — all of whom were aboard unsafe vessels in the Florida Straits — to Bahia de Cabañas, Cuba.

The Coast Guard said it stopped five boats.

“U.S. immigration policies have not changed and we urge people not to take to the ocean in very unseaworthy vessels,” said Capt. Mark Fedor, the chief of response for the Coast Guard's 7th District in a statement. “It is illegal and extremely dangerous.”

In 2015, 4,462 Cuban migrants have been repatriated, according to the Coast Guard.

This is at least the third large repatriation this month. On Oct. 16, the Coast Guard returned 57 migrants to Cuba and on Oct. 14, another 50 migrants were returned.
