Miami Beach Police are investigating the death of a 17-month-old boy, police said Friday.
A couple living on a boat first called police around 5:45 p.m. after their baby, who police did not identify, went missing.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials said the mother took a nap while child’s father left the boat to buy groceries. Miami Herald news partner CBS4 reported that when the mother woke up, the baby was gone.
After a combined effort between the Coast Guard, Miami-Dade Fire Boat, Miami Beach Marine Patrol and City of Miami Fire Boat, police found the boy in the water between Palm and Star islands where FWC officials said the couple lives.
