Miami-Dade County

2 men rescued from burning group home in NW Miami-Dade

Two men and a cat were rescued from a house fire Friday morning in Northwest Miami-Dade.

The men, Scott Henderson, 45, and Elton Smith, 58, are in stabled condition after the 2 a.m. fire at a group home 5021 NW 169th St.

Henderson suffered second-degree burns to 17 percent of his body and was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, said Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta. Smith was taken to Mercy Hospital with smoke inhalation.

Investigators say the fire was intentionally set and are trying to determine how it was ignited and who is responsible, Zabaleta said.
