Fire alarm in downtown office tower turns out to be nothing, sends people into the street
People spilled onto Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami Thursday afternoon as Miami Fire Rescue crews responded to a fire alarm on the 34th floor of a busy office tower.
Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said crews responded to the Southeast Financial Center at 200 S. Biscayne Blvd. for an alarm call.
Firefighters checked the 34th floor and did not find any smoke or other issues. The remainder of the building was also checked and cleared.
Carroll said crews did not evacuate the building, but people coming in or out or walking by were directed across the street while firefighters were in the building.
Brian Andrews, who lives in a nearby building, said he could see "people pouring out."
"It has traffic snarled on Biscayne Boulevard," he said.
