Forecast calls for hot and wet days over Labor Day Weekend
With the Labor Day holiday approaching, many will be planning outdoor activities, but the weekend's forecast should be familiar to residents of South Florida — hot and wet.
Here is this weekend's four-day forecast from the National Weather Service:
- Friday: Highs in the mid 90s during the day. Lows in the upper 70s at night. Boaters should have smooth waters throughout the day, but there is a chance of thunderstorms in the morning and afternoon. There is a 60 percent chance of showers during the day. That drops to 30 to 40 percent in the evening.
- Saturday: Highs in the lower 90s during the day. Lows in the upper 70s at night. Boaters will have to deal with a light chop, as well as a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning. The chance for thunderstorms and showers will increase in the afternoon. Forecasts have the chance for rain at 50 to 60 percent during the day and 30 to 40 percent in the evening.
- Sunday: Highs in the lower 90s during the day. Lows in the upper 70s at night. Smooth waters throughout the day, but Sunday has the highest chance of rain — 60 to 70 percent — and a chance of thunderstorms during the day. The chance of rain drops to 40 percent in the evening.
- Monday: Labor Day forecast calls for highs in the upper 80s during the day, with lows in the upper 70s at night. Boaters will have smooth waters, with a chance of rain — 50 percent —and thunderstorms during the day. The chance of rain drops to 20 percent in the evening.
As of Thursday, the National Hurricane Center was keeping tabs of Tropical Storm Fred and a tropical wave forming off the coast of West Africa, but neither of these will pose a threat to South Florida over Labor Day weekend.
