Taxi cab ride ends in gunfire in Miami, no injuries reported

A taxi cab ride ended Wednesday with an exchange of gunfire between the driver and a passenger after the passenger pulled a gun and demanded money, according to Miami Police Spokeswoman Kenia Fallat.

Fallat said a man and woman got in a cab during rush hour and gave the driver an address. They then changed the address several times, forcing the driver to drive around Miami, Fallat said.

“The taxi driver realized it was weird and told them to pay their fare and get out,” she said, adding he stopped around Northeast 35th Street and Biscayne Boulevard. “That’s when the man pulled out a gun.”

The taxi cab driver also had a gun and there was an exchange of gunfire, but no one was hit, Fallat said.

The couple then ran off into a hotel room at Wishes Motel, 3530 Biscayne Blvd.

Soon after, Fallat said, police found the couple and two other people in the room. All four people were taken in for questioning.

“That area is very busy,” Fallat said. “That no one in the vicinity was it … we can say it’s a happy ending.”
