A woman died Tuesday after she lost control of her car and slammed into a school for developmentally disabled adults, according to Miami Fire Rescue.
The woman, who was not identified, was heading southbound on North Miami Avenue in a four-door silver sedan when she apparently veered to the right and hit the side of a building. The force sent the car across North Miami Avenue and into the front entrance of the Association for the Development of the Exceptional at 2801 North Miami Ave., said Miami Fire Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll.
The impact of the car caused the building to shake and concrete debris to fly, Carroll said.
A man in his 70s, in a wheelchair, was complaining of leg pain and taken to the hospital with none life-threatening injuries.
The woman, who was unconscious and not breathing, was taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where she later died.
Miami police were investigating the cause of the crash.
