When Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies rushed to a home Saturday expecting to encounter some nature of a domestic fight, they instead discovered a stepfather stabbed to death with an assortment of weapons, authorities say.

Juan Andres Gonzalez, 18, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the stabbing death. As of Wednesday, he was still in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Around 3 a.m., deputies walked into the home, in the 1500 block of Northeast 148 Street, and immediately found a man “unresponsive” at the front door, the arrest report read.

They eventually found Gonzalez hiding inside a locked bathroom and arrested him. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue pronounced the man dead.

Investigators discovered the unidentified man was Gonzalez’s stepfather, the report read. They also learned he was murdered and that Gonzalez possibly planned the killing.

Sometime before the murder Gonzalez was seen on surveillance video footage moving interior cameras.

During the early morning hour of Saturday, his stepfather fell asleep while sitting at the dining room table, police said. Shortly after, Gonzalez gathered multiple weapons beginning to fatally stab and strike the man.

Deputies found a blood-stained knife, sword and axe in the home.

The man’s wife told investigators she heard a commotion, and Gonzalez informed her he knocked out his stepfather. It’s unclear if she is Gonzalez’s mother.

Gonzalez refused to speak to deputies during his arrest or his interrogation, authorities said.
